My Croatian Is Fantastic

A Croatian site posted an interview with me in advance of my arrival in Zagreb this week. More Central European ink!

Pre-order My New Book, Technotopia

We’ve all been expecting a techno dystopia, a world shattered by climate change and deadened by social media. But what if the reverse is true? Technotopia is a book about the future and how things will get better, not worse, in the next 100 years.

I’m John Biggs and I’ve been a professional cynic for the past decade. I saw where technology was headed and I was upset, not amazed. But something is changing and I want to tell you about it.

“Yearly reminder: unless you’re over 60, you weren’t promised flying cars. You were promised an oppressive cyberpunk dystopia. Here you go,” wrote Kyle Marquis in February 2015. For most of my life Marquis’ words rang true. I saw the future as a slide into darkness, all Blade Runner and dirty bombs. But we are living in an era of unprecedented access to information and increasingly improved access to the resources needed to build a better world. All is not peaches and cream – yet – but I argue it will get there.

My Everyday Carry

I’ve always loved Everyday Carry. It’s a pretty obsessive site dedicated to stuff people put in their pockets. They finally invited me to take part and it was great.

As you can see above, my EDC is pretty limited – I don’t have to fight off rabid dogs or look into utility ducts – so I’ve got my Omega, my Dad’s old British Navy knife, and my crazy wallet. I also talked a little about writing and creating. It’s a great site and a fun read. Check it out here.

A Great Bitcoin Panel With Michael Casey, Joel Monegro, and Michael Sonnenshein

It’s not every day that I get to sit down with the author of The Age of Cryptocurrency: How Bitcoin and Digital Money Are Challenging the Global Economic Order as well as two cool VCs but I had a hoot with them all last night at an event held by Hedgeable in New York.

It’s was a fascinating opportunity to talk about the future of bitcoin and where everything is headed.
You can read about it here and watch above.

So I’m Working On Something New…

I’m still writing for TC and I’m still working on books – I’m a glutton for punishment – but I wanted to put this up so people wouldn’t be surprised. No more details yet, but soon.

Another Polish Interview

I’m apparently very well-spoken in Polish.

?Jak rewolucja w zakresie innowacyjno?ci mo?e konkretnie zmieni? Polsk??

?”Czasy odkry? indywidualnych entuzjast?w, pracuj?cych w gara?u min??y. Innowacje s? teraz owocem pracy zespo?owej” – m?wi RMF FM John Biggs, bloger, wydawca portalu TechCrunch, dawniej zwi?zany z popularnym portalem Gizmodo.com.Biggs przyjecha? do Krakowa z okazji odbywaj?cej si? ju? po raz drugi imprezy Geek Week Kra?k?w, czyli ty?go?dnio?wego ma?ra?tonu wy?da?rze? zwi??za?nych z no?wy?mi tech?no?lo?gia?mi.

Honestly I don’t even know what I said.

I’m On Sirius XM

My friend Jordan Crook and I are now on Sirius XM channel 102, called Indie, where we run TechCrunch Radio, a live pitch-off that we run on the radio. It’s a load of fun. You can listen to it on Tuesdays at 6pm Eastern and they play it again every few days. The next time you can hear it is at 6pm on Thursday.

Check it out here and let me know what you think!

Wow, Mosh Is Great

Mosh is a mobile shell that maintains your current state no matter what happens to the connection. For example, you can leave a tab in your terminal program open to a server you want to access regularly and just open and close your laptop or device willy nilly. It works for OS X and Android and really seems stable. It’s essentially a persistent SSH connection that ensures you don’t lose your work.

You can grab it here to try it out. You’ll be pleased.
